NEW YEAR -- New Game Plan!
Greetings,
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and that you are now ready to face the challenges of 2010. One extremely effective way to do so is to have a GAME PLAN (an overall strategy, along with proven tactics to meet your short and long-term objectives) just like every college and professional sports team prepares before they venture out on the field on game day. Without a GAME PLAN a team is just an undisciplined horde of individuals running in every direction -- but forward!
Unfortunately, most of us don’t have a GAME PLAN for life or work to guide us even when the going gets tough, rough or even dreadful. I once attended a leadership seminar where a nationally known speaker told the assembled group of managers that he never met a successful person who didn’t have a GAME PLAN for his or her life and work.
This isn’t an accident! Good things just don’t happen; they are the result of having a GAME PLAN that is tweaked, refined and altered as circumstances change during any given year to ensure that your predesigned objectives happen.
Relating this philosophy to supply chain management, you will need a GAME PLAN in 2010 that at a minimum should include: (i) increasing your annual savings yield over 2009 by at least 3%, (ii) eliminating a specific number of defects (things your customer wouldn’t pay for if they knew you were doing them) in your supply chain operations, and (iii) upgrading your supply chain staff’s basic skills with advanced training. How you make this GAME PLAN a reality is by adding tactics to the mix or finding a means to your end game.
The good news is that your GAME PLAN doesn’t need to be complex or even lengthy; it should all fit on an 8-1/2 x 11 piece of paper. It’s not the length of your GAME PLAN that is important – it’s the content.
So if you want to get a running jump start in 2010 in your life and work why not design your own GAME PLAN for your business and personal life that will make it easier for you to face your big and little challenges that you will encounter in 2010.
