Outsource Everything…NOW!
Greetings,
Without question, outsourcing has a
negative stigma attached to it: we hear daily about auto,
manufacturing and customer service jobs being shipped overseas, and
we immediately grow anxious anytime outsourcing is mentioned. Will
our job be next?
Yet, outsourcing isn’t a bad thing.
In fact, there is a great deal of outsourcing done right here in the
United States—which means jobs for those of us here.
Outsourcing has become routine in
healthcare for laundry, bio-med, transcription and document
management services, but these services are just the tip of the
iceberg when you consider the cost advantage, consistent customer
service and value-added services that outsource vendors can provide
your hospital in other low tech and high tech services.
One of our clients is on track to save
$502,444 annually by outsourcing all of their transcription services
to an outsourcing firm. They never considering this outsourcing
option until our
Utilizer® Dashboard pick up this big savings opportunity
on their supply chain radar.
That’s not all! This same client,
through outsourcing, will be installing – at no extra cost to them
-- the latest electronic technology platform to manage the hundreds
of thousands of transcription documents that pass through and/or are
handed off to clinicians at their hospital annually. This will
greatly improve their productivity, through put, and quality
assurance.
The paramount reason for these powerful
outsourcing benefits is the outsource vendors’ economy of scale.
They don’t provide services to just one client; they may service
100, 200, or even 500 clients, which gives them the financial
stability to invest in the most productive technologies, to provide
streamlined, modernized processes and advanced training programs
while giving their employees multiple ladders for promotion.
Very few healthcare organizations can match
an outsource vendor’s ability to become the best at what they do --
because that’s all they do. According to a VHA study a few years
ago, healthcare organizations spent 22 percent of their
operating budget versus 33 percent spent in the general industry on
outsourced services. VHA predicted a growth rate of about 15
percent per year in the healthcare industry’s outsourced
services over the next few years.
The study also revealed that, “Experience
with outsourcing is a key factor in its acceptance...health care
executives who are experienced with outsourcing have a more positive
perception of outsourcing's ability to deliver low-cost,
high-quality innovation and speed to market.”
With this said, it’s my opinion that you
should consider outsourcing everything you are doing…NOW, unless you
are doing it faster, better and less expensive than an outsourcing
firm can do it for you. Why would you do otherwise in this tough
healthcare environment we find ourselves in?
